Short name or long name?
A short first name can be displayed very large. Longer surnames or company names may need smaller text or scrolling. Leave out unnecessary words so the important name is easier to recognize.
iPhone or iPad?
Your iPhone is convenient and usually already with you. If you have an iPad available, it gives you a larger display. Either can work as your pickup sign.
Static or scrolling?
Static text is usually best for quick identification: the name stays in one place and can be read at a glance. Scrolling can help with longer welcome messages. Scrolling is available free in SayItBig!; static mode is included with the optional one-time Pro upgrade.

At arrivals

Keep the important part largest

The person's name should be the easiest thing to notice. Give it more space than a greeting or other details.

Stand somewhere visible

Hold the display where arriving passengers naturally look, while staying out of walkways.

Increase screen brightness

A brighter screen can be easier to notice in a well-lit arrivals hall. Adjust it for the light around you.

Can I use my phone as an airport pickup sign?

Yes. Enter the passenger's name in SayItBig!, choose a readable appearance and tap Play for fullscreen display. The app works on iPhone and iPad without an account. Prepare the message before you reach the busy arrivals area, then check the spelling and any details the passenger expects to see.

Agree on a meeting place beforehand. A phone sign can help someone recognize you once they are looking in your direction; it does not tell them your location or guarantee they will spot you across a crowded terminal. Stay in the designated waiting area and follow the airport's pickup arrangements.

Which name should be on the sign?

Use the name the passenger will recognize. A short first name can work for family or friends. A surname or company name may be more appropriate for a driver or chauffeur meeting someone for the first time. Keep the sign focused on identification rather than adding flight details and a long greeting.

If a name is common, agree on a distinguishing detail before the pickup. Avoid putting unnecessary personal information on a screen facing a public hall. For a family arriving together, “THE SMITH FAMILY” may be clearer than several individual names in small lettering.

Portrait or landscape at arrivals?

Landscape gives a longer surname or company name more horizontal room. Portrait can suit a short name and may be easier to hold while waiting. Try both before the passenger arrives. Adjust brightness for the terminal lighting and use high contrast, then check for reflections from overhead lights.

An iPad gives you a larger physical display, which can help if you have one available. A phone is easier to carry and may be enough when the passenger is nearby. Neither screen has a fixed guaranteed viewing distance: test the wording from a realistic position rather than assuming bigger text will be readable throughout the hall.

Can I use the same sign for other pickups?

Yes. A short name can work at a hotel entrance or train station as well as airport arrivals. Confirm the exact door or meeting point, since a station or hotel may have several entrances. Drivers can save commonly used messages as presets, then check each passenger's details before display.

For a personal arrival, “WELCOME HOME” can add warmth once the person has recognized you. Use static text with Pro for immediate name recognition, or free scrolling for a longer welcome. Keep movement slow enough to read and consider battery charge if you expect a long wait.

Your next welcome, on screen.

SayItBig! turns your iPhone or iPad into a large text display with scrolling or static messages, colors, and visual styles. Scrolling is available free. An optional one-time Pro upgrade includes static mode and more styles. No ads. No subscription.
